30th Annual Cherokee Thanksgiving

November 24, 2022

Important Update

Due to a fire at Williamson Brothers BBQ in October, our host site has been changed to La Catrina Tacos and Margaritas. We are grateful to Reyes and Sharon Morales for their dedication and work with Cherokee Thanksgiving and in helping to secure a new location in such a short time. Please be in prayer for them and all their employees during this difficult time.

Mission

Cherokee Thanksgiving provides free meals on Thanksgiving Day for those in our community who would otherwise not have a Thanksgiving meal. We focus not only on those who are economically disadvantaged, but those who are serving the community and are not able to have a meal with their own family (emergency service providers, care facility workers, etc.).

History

  • Cherokee Thanksgiving started in 1992 by Don Stevens and his family.
  • The original mission was to provide meals locally, on Thanksgiving Day, to those in need. We now also provide meals to community workers, including many local police and fire departments.
  • Utilizing volunteers from all over the community, meals have been delivered to thousands of individuals and families for the past 29 years.
  • The number of meals served in 2021 was 2,400, 700 meals were picked up and 1,700 were delivered.
  • The area served has also grown to include not only Canton, but Woodstock, Acworth, Holly Springs, Ball Ground and most of Pickens County.
  • We continue to raise awareness of our organizations need to raise the community’s awareness of our mission and how each person can help.
